The Sun was having a proper fiery strop as two M-class solar flares burst from its surface at the same time. The dramatic shots were captured by AJ Smadi at around 1PM Pacific Time on July 1, showing bright active regions blazing across the solar surface.
M-class flares are strong bursts of energy that can sometimes trigger CMEs, with auroras possible in the days that follow. The eruptions come from active regions, twisted patches of magnetic field on the Sun that can suddenly release huge amounts of energy.
