Photographer Morio Okubo captured these playful red fox cubs beside a den in the rolling farmland of northern Hokkaido, Japan, during early summer 2026.
The young siblings spent their days bouncing between wrestling matches, mock bite-fests and brief moments of peace before launching into another round. Four cubs lived at the den, but these two were the undisputed troublemakers, constantly chasing, pouncing and pinning each other in the grass.
Morio followed the family for around a month, often arriving at 3:30am, and was rewarded with a collection of charming moments as the cubs’ personalities began to emerge.
